The Snow Biome is the second biome ever added to Dino Kid, 99 Nights in the Forest — and it is permanent map content, not a limited-time event. Here is how the freeze meter works, every warm clothing recipe, what lives out there and the loot worth the trip.
Correction (July 31, 2026): This page previously described the Snow Biome as an upcoming "August 1, 2026" update, based on a single third-party article. That was wrong. The Snow Biome shipped with the 2025 Snow Biome Event and has been permanent map content ever since — we have rewritten the page around the live, verified mechanics.
What the Snow Biome is
The Snow Biome was the second biome added to the game: a cold-climate region with its own freeze mechanic, its own wildlife and its own exclusive items and structures. Visually it is unmistakable — white ground, snow-laden trees, ice spikes and polar bear dens. It was briefly removed and then re-added after the Meteor Update, and it has been a fixed part of the map since.
The freeze meter
This is the mechanic that kills unprepared players. A freeze meter appears the moment you enter the biome and drains the whole time you are in the cold.
Meter empty = no sprinting — and losing sprint in a biome full of Polar Bears and wolves is usually how the run ends.
Warm clothing slows the drain — it does not stop it. More thermometer icons on an item means more time before you are slowed.
Indoors is safe from the cold — the meter pauses while you are inside the Warm Clothing Shop, but enemies can still hit you while you craft.
How to reach the Snow Biome
Upgrade your base campfire. The snow sits outside the starting boundary, so it opens up as the campfire radius grows into it — no quest, no key, no event window. On the map the forest is green and the Snow Biome is a distinct white region, which makes it easy to plan a route before you commit.
Every warm clothing recipe
The Warm Clothing Shop is a cabin near the start of the Snow Biome, marked with a winter hat icon on your map. Inside is a glass case showing all four craftable pieces and a crafting station — drop the materials on the table and the item is made automatically.
Bunny Feet come from ordinary forest bunnies, so farm those before you ever set foot in the snow — Earmuffs are cheap insurance for the first trip. Some sources list Earmuffs at 1 Bunny Foot rather than 2, so carry a spare. Pelt drops from foxes and bears are rare; expect several kills per pelt.
What lives in the snow
🦊 Arctic Fox
Small, fast and spawns in groups. Low health, so it is the realistic pelt farm — Arctic Fox Pelts feed both the Beanie and the Arctic Fox Hat.
🐻❄️ Polar Bear
A direct upgrade to the forest Bear and the highest entity damage in the game. Use ranged weapons — it will out-run you the moment your freeze meter drops. Drops the rare Polar Bear Pelt.
🦣 Mammoth
Neutral until you attack it, then it hits back with a knockback attack and a huge health pool. Worth it for the enormous food drops and the Mammoth Tusks used in the Mammoth Helmet.
🦉 The Owl
A night-time entity that can replace The Deer here. It uses a "don’t move" mechanic — hold still and it may turn hostile. Unkillable, so break line of sight instead.
🐺 Wolves & Cultists
Wolves and Arctic Wolves patrol the area right around the Warm Clothing Shop, and Cultists spawn in the biome too. Bring a weapon and bandages before your first trip.
Owl Feathers & the Bird Watcher (Owl Update)
The Owl Update layered a small feather economy on top of the Snow Biome. Getting through an Owl night is no longer only about surviving — The Owl leaves Owl Feathers behind, and the Bird Watcher NPC spends them.
How to get Owl Feathers — They drop from The Owl itself. Survive an Owl night — it replaces The Deer on some Snow Biome nights, telegraphed by "The Owl has woken up" and wind at nightfall — by holding still when it lands. When it flies off it leaves feathers to collect. The Owl is immortal, so you earn them by outlasting it, never by killing it.
The Bird Watcher NPC — The Bird Watcher is an NPC in the Snow Biome who trades using Owl Feathers. Bring feathers you collected and exchange them for rewards. It is a trader, not a buyable class, so spending feathers unlocks no permanent class — it is a pure feather-for-rewards exchange.
Trade stock rotates — The Bird Watcher’s exact inventory has shifted between updates, so confirm the current offer in-game rather than memorising a fixed list. For the full Owl survival walkthrough, see the monster bestiary.
Exclusive loot
The biome carries items you will not find in the green forest — the Ice Sword, the Frozen Shuriken and Snowballs. Two chest types can also spawn here, the Cold Chest and the Ice Chest, though neither is guaranteed in a given run.
Snow Biome badges
The 2025 Snow Biome Event introduced four badges. Three of them — Reconstruction, Ice Sculpting and Wilderness Hunting — are earned out in the snow; Knitting comes from the warm-clothing grind. Each pays out Diamonds, and two also add camp furniture.

Known issues
After the Snow Biome was re-added following the Meteor Update, a glitch could spawn the Warm Clothing Shop far away from the campfire instead of at the snowline.
A separate known bug can stop the cabin from spawning in the Snow Biome at all. If you cannot find the winter-hat icon on your map, that run may simply not have one — plan on rejoining a fresh server.
Before your first snow trip
Farm Bunny Feet in the forest and craft Earmuffs on arrival — never enter with zero warmth.
Bring a ranged weapon. Polar Bears and Arctic Foxes are faster than a chilled player.
Carry food and bandages; wolves guard the cabin and you cannot heal while frozen and fleeing.
Locate the winter-hat icon on the map before you cross the snowline, not after.
Farm Arctic Fox Pelts first, then upgrade to the Polar Bear Hat once you can survive a bear fight.
